I firmly believe that LA is a city best lived in vs. visited, and the Bowl is a huge part of my argument.
Seeing an outdoor show with incredible acoustics with 17,500 other enthusiasts, where you can enjoy your own food and drink on a beautiful LA evening where the dusk settles into a starry night in the hills right as the concert hits its stride… elite experience.
And it’s also such a high point for the careers of most musicians that they are equally ecstatic to play there, which brings a very special energy. Though it’s not just all big pricey shows — you can go see the LA Philharmonic play in the summer for literally as low as $1.
Plus, if you just want to experience the Bowl’s architecture and history (it is 104 years old!), you can go for free during the day, run the steps, picnic in the benches, enjoy the view of the Hollywood sign, visit the free museum… such a gem!
